Blog Post #9

I was in the age of student where 3 out of my 4 years in high school were affected by COVID-19. This affected my learning greatly at the time and I never realized how behind distant learning had put me. During COVID I felt that the distance learning conduct was often rushed and not paid attention to enough. Half the students in person and the other half distance learning teachers often ignored online students or forgot they were there. I feel this is a huge problem with distant learning because “out of sight, out of mind.” While in typical in-person learning teachers and students are forced to meet and get work done together to ensure that learning occurs.

Open educational resources are learning resources that are available to anyone, and not under any type of copyright. Usually, these resources are distributed electrotonically, but they can really be found anywhere that education is being shared openly. This is super helpful for homeschool parents, new teachers and those who want to expand their education by allowing others to build and share their work and methods of teaching. The Concord Consortium is an OER as it provides many STEM-related activities and lessons for a classroom, sharing new ways to teach. You can find the site here.

I really enjoyed the PowerPoint assignments! I have never really explored how to use PowerPoint in the past and learning how to use the animations and sound effects was super fun for me. I felt I could be super creative while still making an educational PowerPoint about the. Information I was covering. I also really enjoyed learning how to do the second PowerPoint assignment and making me choose your adventure activity. Not only was it super creative and fun, but it also gave me a chance to perfect all the tools in PowerPoint and use them in different ways. By the end I found myself playing with more technical parts of animations and transitions to make the PowerPoint more interactive.
